Donna Moss : 2002-10-08
There are certain things in life that will always cheer me up:

Going to a baseball game.

Watching a really good movie.

Cooking dinner for a bunch of people.

Watching my dog do silly things.

Going on a road trip with Bizbe.

A warm bowl of miso soup.

There's a high pressure system overhead from Canada...the air's getting a little cooler, and the leaves are starting to turn. Today's the first day of the season when I thought to myself, "I shoulda wore a jacket."

On days like this it's always good to have one of the things mentioned above...

At work, I now have an associate producer to assist me. She's 25, been a production assistant for about 3 years now, and finally got her dream promotion into the i-team. She's a great worker, kinda reminds me of how Donna Moss is on the West Wing. She's on time, detail oriented, and rarely complains (mainly because I bitch enough for both of us) However, due to "company" bureaucracy, she's not "officially" promoted. She can't even get business cards with her name on it. The "company" have promised her in July that in a few months things will clear up and she'd get what she deserves. It's now October and nothing's happened yet.

She makes 12 dollars an hour.

Being the good supervisor type person that I am, I went to talk to el jeffe about her situation.

Shut down.

The "company" is still working on her situation and it probably wont be resolved this fiscal year.

She's living with mom.

Meanwhile, el jeffe drives a benz convertible and invites bimbos to his boat.

Mentor or not, I've come to the realization that the guy I work for is kind of an ass and I should seriously consider a career change. Usually people like me move over to "the dark side" knowns as PR. But right now I can't imagine a side darker than this place.

But you know the silly thing is? I WAS her. When I first started in this business I was the pseudo associate producer who wasn't making money. And it was my mentor (my boss now) who helped me. And now I'm trying to help her. I guess that's how things work, except I can't really help her. Because my mentor has turned into a "company man" (and I use that term in the Glengary Glennross kinda way). Hell, after my last conversation with him, I can't even really help myself.

So today my associate producer and I are going to share in our misery, and have a bowl of miso soup together.

my treat.
